Did you know, that if you are celebrating a special event, you can get a Celebration Button for free at Walt Disney World and Disneyland?  Yes, I said free and Disney in the same sentence!  You may be thinking a button, what’s the big deal?  But these buttons are magical and should not be missed.

On our first trip to Walt Disney World, I picked up a First Time Button for my daughter, not expecting much, but I heard it was the thing to do…I had no idea just how special it would be!

My family stopped for the Main Street Trolley show (boy how I miss this show!) and after the show one of the performers came up to my daughter and spoke to her for more than 5 minutes about her first trip to Disney.    My daughter felt so special, and it set the tone for our entire vacation.  From characters to cast members we literally had at least 20 more experiences like this!   I am pretty sure my daughter thought she owned Disney by the time we left.   At one point I went to put a sweater on her and she asked me to move her button so it wouldn’t be hidden…. even a 3-year-old realized the magic of that button.

Since that first trip we’ve celebrated birthdays and anniversaries and gotten our buttons each time.  Some experiences have been better than others, just like anything else, but overall, we’ve had amazing experiences with our buttons!

I recommend getting your button as your first order of business on your trip.  Either ask a Cast Member at your hotel if staying on property or go to one of the Walt Disney World or Disneyland Guest Relations in the parks,

You can currently get pins for the following celebrations:

  • 1st Visit
  • Happily Ever After (Wedding and Anniversary)
  • Happy Birthday
  • I’m Celebrating

The Cast Member typically asks for your name and sometimes will ask if you want to include any numbers – like 25 for a 25th wedding anniversary.  I recommend bringing an extra sharpie as the writing can fade over time…I did not know that sunscreen can make sharpie ink disappear. Another trick is to ask a Cast Member to place tape over the writing to preserve it.
