Yesterday Disney announced its updated policy regarding face masks. Although most bloggers reported the end to the face mask policy, it isn’t quite that simple. Here is the current policy (as of February 16, 2022) and effective February 17, 2022, at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort:
-
- Face masks are optional for fully vaccinated guests at both indoor and outdoor locations (except on Disney enclosed transportation).
- Face masks are optional for guest who are not vaccinated at outdoor locations and still required for indoor locations and Disney enclosed transportation.
- Face masks are required for all guests 2 and over on all Disney enclosed transportation. This includes Disney buses, monorail, and Disney Skyliner.
It is not clear why the requirement is still in place for transportation, however given dense capacity and proximity of guests using Disney transportation it stands to reason that Disney may still want to be cautious. It is also possible that negotiations still need to take place with unions around mask mandate changes.
In either event this is a huge step in getting back to normalcy at the parks.
If you are planning a trip to either Disney location in the upcoming months, be sure to check the Walt Disney World Know Before You Go and the Disneyland Resort Know Before You Go sites regularly, as guidance will continue to change regularly.
